UK Government ECO4 Scheme

What Is It?

The ECO (Energy Company Obligation) is a government energy efficiency scheme across the UK. It requires energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency improvements to domestic properties, focusing on vulnerable households and those most likely to be impacted by fuel poverty. Under ECO4, approved companies are able to access this funding, deliver energy efficiency measures such as insulation and heating upgrades to low-income households and properties that are hard to treat. The scheme aims to reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

How Do I Qualify?

You will qualify for this funding if anyone living in your property is in receipt of one of the below benefits. You do not need to own your property to qualify, although we will need permission from your landlord to carry out the work.

What Home Improvements Can I Receive?

ECO4 takes a ‘whole house approach’ and does not focus on one particular home improvement. Instead, a surveyor looks at all the features of your house and can help you access several of the below measures to make the largest energy savings. In certain properties it is possible to receive 4 or even 5 of these measures at the same time, with no customer contribution.

• Loft Insulation
• Internal Wall Insulation
• Air Source Heat Pump
• Floor Insulation
• External Wall Insulation
• Solar Panels
• Room In Roof Insulation
• Full Central heating

The funding towards these measures will improve your homes’ energy efficiency, protecting you against rising energy costs. In addition, these measures will work to eliminate issues like condensation, damp, and mould. Our team of expert surveyors can advise you on the best measures to reduce your bills, cut your carbon footprint, and improve your home.

Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are needed whenever a property is:

• Built
• Sold
• Rented

You must order an EPC for potential buyers and tenants before you sell or rent your property. In Scotland, you must display the EPC somewhere in the property, for example in the meter cupboard or next to the boiler.
An EPC contains:

• Information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs

• Recommendations about how to reduce energy use and save money

• An EPC gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and is valid for 10 years.

Check how you could make your home more energy efficient using the Energy Savings Trust’s home energy check.

UK Government ECO4 Scheme

Solar Panels

Solar PV converts sunlight into electricity, providing savings on electricity bills and reducing carbon emissions.

Floor Insulation

Underfloor Insulation can reduce the loss of heat and energy from your home through the floor. Underfloor insulation can last up to 25 years but usually, it lasts much longer if it is installed correctly.

Air Source Heat Pump

Utilising the air around your property and converting it into fuel to help generate heat for your radiators and water.

External Wall Insulation

External wall insulation mitigates the amount of heat lost through a building’s walls, which is estimated to be around 45%. Insulation is fixed to the outer leaf of a building

Room In Roof Insulation

Heat escaping through your roof accounts for 25% of home energy loss. Boosting loft insulation is a quick, cost-effective solution, especially for pre-1990s conversions.

Internal Wall Insulation

Internal wall insulation is used to improve indoor comfort and boost energy efficiency. There are various methods of adding insulation for inside walls to reduce heat loss..

Loft Insulation

An effective insulation measure that takes very little time to install, lasts for decades, and helps to keep your house warm in the winter and cool during the summer.

Full Central Heating

The newest boiler are more energy efficient, cheaper to run, and better at heating your home.
